A Personal Reflection on Ottoman Heritage, Leadership, and Building Lasting Value

Some stories are written in books. Others are carried from one generation to another.

I was born into a family whose history is connected through documented generations to the Imperial Ottoman Family. This heritage has been known within my family since I was born, and it remains an important part of the history from which I come.

A Brief Note on My Family Heritage

The Ottoman Dynasty was one of the longest-ruling dynasties in history, spanning more than six centuries and shaping the political, cultural, economic, and architectural history of a vast region connecting Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

Within this long history, Sultan Mehmed V Reşad, the 35th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, reigned from 1909 to 1918 during a particularly transformative period in Ottoman history.

According to the published genealogical records of the Imperial Ottoman Family, my family lineage extends through successive generations from Sultan Mehmed V Reşad to my family, with Muhammad Ahmad Rachid, born on November 26, 1970, appearing in the documented family genealogy.

For me, however, heritage is not about titles. It is about responsibility.

The Meaning of Heritage

Growing up with this history has given me a deep appreciation for the idea that every generation has a responsibility to write its own chapter. We cannot choose where we come from. But we can choose what we contribute. That belief has shaped my professional life. Over more than two decades in hospitality, I have had the opportunity to lead hotels, work with owners and investors, develop teams, navigate challenging operating environments, and focus on one fundamental objective:Creating sustainable value. Hospitality is an industry where leadership is visible every day. It is visible in the guest experience. It is visible in the culture of a hotel. It is visible in the decisions made by management.And ultimately, it is visible in the financial performance and long-term value of the asset.

From Heritage to Leadership

My professional journey was not built on my family name.It was built through education, experience, discipline, difficult decisions, and years of working within the realities of hotel operations.

As CEO of ACE Hotel Group , I believe that leadership is not simply about managing today’s operation. It is about preparing the organization for tomorrow. A hotel can achieve high occupancy and still destroy value.A hotel can generate revenue and still underperform.And a hotel can have a beautiful physical asset while lacking the leadership required to protect its long-term future. This is why I have always believed that hospitality leadership must connect people, operations, financial performance, and asset value.

What Legacy Means to Me

My family history reminds me of where I came from. My professional journey reminds me of what I must accomplish.And the future reminds me that whatever we build today will eventually belong to the next generation. That is why I do not define legacy by a title, a family name, or a position.I define it by the value we create and the people we help develop along the way. A family name may be inherited.

A reputation must be earned.And a legacy must be built. This is the philosophy I bring to ACE hotel Group and to every hotel, owner, investor, and team with whom I have the privilege to work. Because ultimately, history tells us where we came from.Leadership determines what we leave behind.
